The Ownership Layer™ › Legacy Ownership Diagnostic

The Legacy Ownership Diagnostic

A structured review of what an organization owns, whether it can prove and control it, and how well it will transfer, ahead of a consequential business event.

What it is

The Legacy Ownership Diagnostic applies The Ownership Layer™ framework to a single organization at a specific moment. It looks beneath the visible brand at the assets, agreements, contributors, records, and commercial rights that determine what the business can actually deploy, license, defend, or sell.

Ownership questions that stay invisible during ordinary operations often become material when a counterparty, investor, licensee, or successor asks the business to substantiate what it controls and what can actually be transferred. The Diagnostic is designed to surface those questions before that moment, while there is still time to address them.

What it examines

The review is organized around five questions.

  1. What the business believes it owns.
  2. What evidence actually supports that ownership.
  3. Which rights are limited by contracts, contributors, vendors, platforms, or AI tool terms.
  4. Whether those rights can be transferred, licensed, enforced, or used across markets.
  5. Where stronger ownership discipline could inform commercial strategy.

Who it is for

The Diagnostic is built for founder-led, privately held businesses whose value depends materially on brands, content, proprietary methods, creative assets, technology-enabled production, or relationships with key contributors and platforms, particularly when the organization is approaching an event such as:

Licensing or commercialization
Investment or diligence
International expansion
An important partnership
AI-enabled production
A founder transition

In each case, ownership evidence and transferability become commercially important, and assumptions that went unexamined for years are suddenly tested by someone on the other side of the table.

What you come away with

A structured ownership-position assessment showing where ownership appears strong, where evidence, control, or transferability requires attention, and which issues are most consequential to the contemplated business event.

The Diagnostic translates those findings into a prioritized decision agenda, so leadership can determine what should be resolved, investigated, or referred for formal legal review.

It is a strategic assessment of position, not a legal opinion, and not a substitute for formal legal work.

How engagements begin

The Diagnostic is offered on a limited, private basis, to a small number of organizations at a time. Conversations start privately, by warm introduction or through the Contact page. Please share only a brief, high-level description of your situation at first, with no confidential materials or ownership documents. If there is a potential fit, next steps and any formal intake are handled directly.

Discuss a Potential Diagnostic

Prospective legal matters are handled through the Rimon legal-services pathway.

Important boundary: This page provides general information only. Participation in the Diagnostic does not create an attorney-client relationship or constitute legal representation. Any legal work would require separate Rimon conflicts and engagement procedures. Do not send confidential information or ownership documents through this website.
